Dirk Michels – GENERAL COUNSEL

Dirk is one of the most prominent attorneys in the U.S. distributed solar industry and has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Clean Technology Lawyers in California.  He is admitted to practice law in Europe and California. Dirk has been a partner of two AmLaw 100 law firms since 2001 and was one of the founders and the General Counsel of Solar Power Partners (founded in 2006) and after financing of 3 distributed commercial solar funds and fundraising of about $200 million, was sold to NRG in 2011 for $150 million.  From 2012 to 2015, Dirk was the General Counsel of the Solar Energy Finance Association (SEFA), which was merged into the Solar Energy Industry Association in December 2016. Dirk currently chairs the SEIA Distributed Generation and Energy Storage Contract Standardization Committee.  In addition, Dirk is Director Emeritus and founding Director of the German-American Business Association and a former Hamburg Ambassador representing his home state of Hamburg, Germany at the U.S. West Coast from 2005 – 2015. Dirks BS in Economics from the University of Hamburg, School of Economics, a JD from the University of Hamburg, School of Law and a LLM from the University of San Diego.
